Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Dupl. By creating an account, you agree to them. Please read Section 5 (recording consent) and Section 8 (liability) carefully.

1. What Dupl is

Dupl is a service that creates an AI avatar that attends video meetings on your behalf. The avatar uses a replica of your likeness and voice, operates according to a persona you define, and can respond to questions in real time. You can intervene asynchronously during meetings and receive transcripts and summaries afterwards.

Dupl is a tool. What your AI avatar says and does in meetings is ultimately your responsibility, not ours.

2. Your account

You must be at least 18 years old to use Dupl. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You may not create accounts on behalf of others without their explicit permission.

3. Biometric data and your replica

To use Dupl, you provide a training video or photo that we use to generate an AI replica of your face and optionally your voice. By doing so you confirm:

  • You are the person depicted in the training material, or you have explicit written permission from that person
  • You consent to the processing of this biometric data to provide the service
  • You understand that biometric data is processed by Tavus (face) and ElevenLabs (voice) as described in our Privacy Policy

You may request deletion of your replica and all associated biometric data at any time by contacting legal@dupl.app.

4. Your AI avatar's conduct

Your Dupl operates according to the persona and mode settings you configure. You acknowledge that:

  • The AI may not respond perfectly in all situations — it can make mistakes, misunderstand context, or speak inappropriately
  • You are responsible for reviewing the gate decision log and meeting summary after each session
  • You are responsible for any commitments, statements, or representations your Dupl makes in meetings on your behalf
  • You should not send your Dupl to meetings where it could cause harm if it responds incorrectly — for example, medical consultations, legal proceedings, or any context where an error has serious consequences

5. Recording consent — your responsibility

When your Dupl attends a meeting, it records the conversation including other participants who have not agreed to Dupl's terms. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the right to record those participants under applicable law.

Recording consent requirements vary significantly by jurisdiction. Many US states (including California, Florida, Illinois, and others) require all-party consent. European data protection law imposes additional obligations. You must understand and comply with the laws that apply to you and your meeting participants.

We recommend using the opening statement feature so participants are informed an AI is attending. We are not responsible for your compliance with recording or data protection laws.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use Dupl to:

  • Impersonate someone else without their consent
  • Deceive meeting participants in a way that causes them harm
  • Attend meetings where recording is explicitly prohibited
  • Generate, store, or distribute content that is illegal, defamatory, or violates another person's rights
  • Circumvent technical measures or attempt to access other users' data
  • Use the service in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercialise access to the service without our permission

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms without notice.

7. Intellectual property

Dupl and its underlying software, design, and content are owned by us. Your meeting transcripts, summaries, and contact notes are yours — we claim no ownership over them.

By using the service, you grant us a limited licence to process your data (including biometric data and meeting content) solely to provide the service as described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is." We make no warranty that Dupl will perform perfectly, be available at all times, or that your AI avatar will represent you accurately in all situations.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

  • Any statement, commitment, or representation made by your Dupl in a meeting
  • Consequences of recording meetings without proper consent from participants
  • Loss of business, reputation, or data arising from your use of the service
  • Interruptions, errors, or failures of the service or any third-party services we depend on
  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of your use of Dupl is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

9. Termination

You may close your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, if we discontinue the service, or for any other reason with reasonable notice.

On termination, we will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will notify you by email of material changes at least 14 days before they take effect. If you disagree with the new terms, you may close your account before they take effect.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.
